Mother’s Day

Every mother’s day, I give thanks for the mothers I have in my life, especially my own. Mothers are amazing. But it’s also a hard day for me, because my body won’t let me be one, no matter how much I want it to. This can be true for cis women and non-binary people, and is universally true for trans women. It will never be something I fully accept. I will always long for the experience of carrying a child. I celebrate the mothers in my life, but mother’s day for me is mixed with sorrow that I will never join them.

Dear future child, I'm sorry that I can't give birth to you in this life. You deserve all the happiness in life but this body is the biggest obstacle to it happening. I hope we will be able to meet properly in the next life. I will always love you, Mom
